TOM DURCAN, ENGLISH MARKET TRADER - CBA PRESIDENT 2012

Tom Durcan, one of the English Markets best known butchers, is the President of the Cork Business Association for 2012.  Tom is also the Chairman of the English Market Traders Group and has been a longstanding trader in the market himself with a loyal customer base.

He came to national prominence when showcasing his meats and his native city to Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip during their visit to Cork last year.   Tom is a down to earth Cork man who understands local business.  A reflection of where he has come from lies in the fact that he is breaking the mould of big business holding the Chain of Office of the CBA in that he becomes the first English Market Trader to hold the honour.

Both Tom’s and the CBA’s hopes for 2012 are that they can continue to broaden Corks horizons in business.  Tom was directly involved in the organisation of the Queens’ visit last year, something that put Cork on the map and impressed many people.

Durcan has been vocal in his thoughts on business and how the country will get moving again “We cant just sit back and wait for things to happen - we must get out there and promote our city”.

Tom’s appointment as President has been welcomed across the board and the Chief Executive of the CBA, Donal Healy has said “Tom is a very successful businessman who always puts the wider interest of Cork fits.  He will be a fantastic ambassador for the city”.
